Performing Arts

Riverdale School offers an abundance of Cultural and Performing Arts opportunities.  We provide students with a rich and diverse array of creative outlets to ensure a vibrant and enriching educational experience.

Te Puawai is a Whakangahau group that practices every week and performs at various functions. Te Puawai is guided by our Te Ao Māori teachers. The Aronui kaupapa of the group encourages vibrant participation, with a more Mangotoa group branching out and becoming our Kapa Haka roopu, Ngā Tewhatewha. Te Puawai has an open tikanga, which takes a contemporary approach to including any and all students with an interest in waiata, Tikanga, and Te Reo. Our group has its own carefully considered kawa or protocols that create our Riverdale Tikanga.

Ngā Tewhatewha is our elite Year 3-6 Kapa Haka group. Children audition for positions based on their passion for Te Ao Haka, Waita and Whānaungatanga. Ngā Tewhatewha has weekly practices with the goal of performing at Pae Tamariki.

Our School Choir is open to children of all ages, and we hold weekly practices and perform regularly throughout the year.

Every year, auditions are held for the School Band, and the chosen children receive mentoring throughout the year to perform at special school events.

The Dance Explorers are our elite Dance Team. Positions are auditioned for at the beginning of the year. Each year the Dance Explorers compete at Dance NZ Made and perform at our Summer Finale.
